Verizon’s Jetpack 4G LTE Arrives on April 12th at $49.99 (37 Euros)

Verizon Wireless has confirmed that its latest Jetpack 4G LGE Mobile Hotspot MiFi 4620 would become available from April 26th onwards.

The device would be up for sale via the Verizon’s website and its wireless communication stores around the world. Verizon’s mobile hotspot will have a starting price of $49.99 post a $50 rebate and it also needs the user to sign a 2 year contract with Verizon.

Unveiled in early 2012 in Las Vegas during the Consumer Electronics Show, the Jetpack is being hyped as a perfect travel partner for all users.

Developed in the stables of Novatel Wireless the new Mobile Hotspot enables subscribers to provide Internet connectivity through Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network to almost 10 Wi-Fi enabled machines.

The device is Global Ready meaning Verizon customers could use it in over 205 nations including over 125 countries with 3G.

Verizon in a statement noted that this device can be used by customers who are traveling all over the world to charge their Wi-Fi gadgets and communicate with friends and family, listen to music, read books, watch movies and conduct businesses. Apart from a multiple colored LED condition indicator this device features an OLED interactive display in the front of the mobile which allows users to scroll the menu options, view security settings, display battery data and see alerts for data usage.

Currently in the United States, Verizon is the owner of the biggest LTE network, spanning over 200 million users in around 200 markets. With this network, subscribers can utilize data transfer speeds which are around 10 times speedier than what is available on 3G.

Verizon also said that the rebate will be by way of a debit card which can be used just like any other debit card at places where debit cards can be used for cash.

Why Mobile Hotspots are a Must for Business Travelers?

Mobile Hotspot for Business

Mobile Hotspot for Business

Why Mobile Hotspots are a Must for Business Travelers?

By Dan Karas

With the rapid increase in the usage of mobile phone and smart phone users, there is a greater demand for mobile phone services that allow people to stay connected at all times. Today, many businessmen depend on hand held devices that offer Internet connectivity for quick and easy access of information.  Technology has come a long way from the evolution of Bluetooth to the 3G and the 4G networks that are becoming commonplace today.

These days, hotspots have become extremely popular and they can practically be found everywhere ranging from public places such as coffee shops, bookstores and airports to some local towns and municipalities. At a very basic level, they refer to the ability to connect the Internet to a local wireless network. However, the same functionality can be shared using smartphones with the help of the right software and hardware support.

Mobile Hotspots are small wallet sized devices that utilize the wireless data service by using a built in router with the capability of transmitting data at higher speeds. Now, they can practically work anywhere depending on the network of your service provider with the ability to support up to 5 devices at the same time.

Many newer smartphones have mobile hotspot functionality built-in, you just run the hotspot app and connect your wireless devices via your smartphone to your cellular 3G of 4G Internet network.

Most business people who travel need to have instant access to the Internet for sharing vital business information with their clients and co-workers. However, places that provide wireless Internet access can be quite expensive and sometimes, data access and transfer may be relatively slow. In such times, it may be a good idea to have your own mobile hotspot that can provide wireless Internet access using a smart phone or even a laptop device. One of the benefits of using mobile hotspots is to that you can have wireless connectivity among multiple devices to ensure quick and efficient means of business communication.

3 top benefits of having your own mobile hotspot:

Easily accessible and convenient

By using mobile hotspots, you can just have a single device that allows you to provide connectivity to many other devices and offers greater functionality to the users. That means, now you can use your smartphone with a mobile hotspot to act as a wireless modem or router and access the plethora of information that is available on the Internet from practically anywhere that there is a cellular signal.

Quick sharing and retrieval of information

Now, mobile hotspots are capable of delivering higher bandwidth then older dial-up tethered mobile connections which make it suitable for receiving large amounts of data and information. Using the higher speed, you can easily download large business presentations and also have video conferencing support whenever required. There are many mobile service providers that enable you to tether your smartphone with different devices such as the laptop or the tablet. However, this may require a USB device or  Bluetooth connectivity for your smartphone to act as a mobile hotspot and access instant information.

Portable and can be carried easily

Mobile hotspots can be very useful for frequent business travelers who need to stay in constant touch and share vital business information. Now, using a wireless network, you can easily ensure smooth connectivity using these mobile hotspots and send important updates and e-mails for effective business communication. As these devices are small and portable, they can be easily carried anywhere you travel and be used to access the Internet at your convenience.

Apple Customers Hoping for Iphone5 get Iphone4s Instead

iPhone 4s

Apple Customers Hoping for Iphone5 get Iphone4s Instead

Apple Iphone lovers everywhere were all highly anticipating the release of the Iphone5, rumored to come out this winter. Instead they learned that the newest addition to the Iphone family is actually the Iphone4s, released on October 14th on AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint. But…is it really that big of a difference from the Iphone 4 to the Iphone 4s?

Apple says “yes!” The new Iphone is much faster, about 2 times as fast due to the dual core A5 CPU. It has lightning fast download speeds of about 14.4 Mbps on HSDPA connections, which is typical for 4G smartphones these days.

Most importantly the Iphone4s incorporates Apple’s “intelligent assistant” right into the handheld.  It is the first device of its kind. This assistant, called Siri will remind you of important events, recommend restaurants, and has a useful voice to text feature.

So, maybe it isn’t the Iphone 5, but apple definitely didn’t fail to deliver with the Iphone 4s. Customers are eagerly awaiting what they will come out with next.

AT&T Upgrades Wireless Network, Starting with Michigan

In a project called Focus: Detroit AT&T is working to expand mobile broadband coverage, improve voice performance and hopefully offer 4G LTE to more customers in Michigan.

“AT&T’s investment in Michigan is great news,” said House Speaker Jase Bolger (R-Marshall). “Infrastructure improvements like this make AT&T a great partner as we work to make Michigan a major competitor for economic development and job creation.”

“Michigan is proud to welcome AT&T’s investment and continuing commitment to the state,” said Senate Majority Leader Randy Richardville (R-Monroe). “The resources AT&T are making available for job makers and families, from faster speeds to expanded cell and broadband coverage are critical tools in our effort to attract, grow and strengthen new jobs across the state.”

Around the Detroit area the company has made many enhancements including:

  • Installing new cell sites to improve coverage
  • Upgrading existing cell sites leading to faster mobile broadband speeds
  • Adding an extra layer of frequency
  • HSPA + technology and enhances backhaul connections (enabling 4G speeds)

In order to increase network speed and expand coverage AT&T plans to support and upgrade thousands of cell sites nationwide in the next year.

“More than ever before, customers look to wireless communications to stay in touch with family, friends and business colleagues,” said Jim Murray, president, AT&T Michigan. “We’re working to make this possible by investing in new wireless coverage in the area.”

Due to AT&T’s recent investments and their plan to take on T-Mobile USA the company is expanding rapidly. The company predicts that this will help expand 4G LTE mobile broadband to more than 97% of the country.

At&t T-Mobile Merger

At&t T-Mobile Merger

At&t T-Mobile Merger

AT&T is paying $39 billion for T-Mobile. $25 billion will be in cash and the balance in stock.

The deal is expected to take 12 months to complete after stockholder approval. At&t will become the largest wireless carrier in the U.S.

This merger will leave At&t with only two major cellular wireless competitors, Verizon and Sprint.

At&t hopes the addition of T-Mobile towers will help relieve its bad reputation for dropping calls.

Both carriers use GSM technology, but operate on different frequencies. It will take two years or more to completely integrate the two companies.

How to Use Yahoo to Filter Email Spam on Android

For many an email address or two on their smartphone is plenty, and there are some good spam filters that will prevent spam from finding its way to your smartphone in the first place, but what about those Android users who need multiple email addresses? Many business owners have their own domain email, and sometimes lots of them. Combine that with a couple personal accounts and you could have yourself one big spammy mess.

Android has a good email app, but there is no email spam protection whatsoever. I suppose they rely on the POP3 or IMAP servers to do the filtering, but that doesn’t help much when you have a lot of spam getting through. After some trial and error I’ve figured out a way to use Yahoo as a spam filter. Not only does Yahoo have good spam filters server side, but also an excellent free app for Android that makes it possible to mark any email as spam.

My personal favorite Android email app, the Yahoo email app for Android is pretty, it’s fast,  supports folders, files, and imports Yahoo contacts, but you’ll need to add additional email accounts from your Yahoo web based email before you can view them in the app. Free Yahoo email users can add up to three non-Yahoo email addresses, and Yahoo Plus users can add up to five. You can Also create folders for those non-Yahoo email accounts, and have the email sent there so they don’t clutter your inbox.

To setup additional email accounts for viewing in Yahoo you must:

  1. Log in to your Yahoo Email Account
  2. From the top left of the screen click “help”, then select “options” from the drop down menu
  3. Click “Accounts” in the left menu, then click “Add Account” and type in your credentials for the email you want to view.
  4. Click “save changes”
  5. Verify your email address. You’ll be prompted to do so after entering your email information

To setup a folder for your email you need to:

  1. Click the Add New Folder or + symbol next to “folders” in the left menu
  2. Enter your folder name and save

To have your non-Yahoo email sent to that folder you must:

  1. From the top left of the screen click “help”, then select “options” from the drop down menu
  2. Click the name of the email account you just set up, then look under “Receiving Mail”. Select the folder you just created from the drop down menu
  3. Click “save changes”

Now all of those emails will go directly to the folder you created on Yahoo email! To get the Yahoo Email app for Android, just visit the Android Market from your Android smartphone. The app is free by the way. Install it, and enter your primary Yahoo account credentials (the same Yahoo account you used to setup email), and as soon as you’ve successfully connected to your account, your new folders, and any emails will be there waiting for you. If a spam message happens to get through, just long press on the message, and select “mark as spam” from the menu. That’s it!

It would be ideal if Android just had a spam filter built in, but until then this is a nice workaround. If you have any other ideas on how to keep spam out of your Android email, please let us know in the comments section below. There are plenty of people who would like to know your ideas!

3G Wireless Internet – What’s 3G All About?

3G Wireless Internet

Compare Mobile Broadband Deals?

Today, people are enjoying all different types of Internet connections. 3G wireless Internet is a perfect choice for those frequently on the go. Alternatively known as mobile broadband, 3G or third generation Internet it is a rather fresh new technology providing both convenience and flexibility. Prior to spending your money, there are a few terms you need to understand. EVDO, which stands for Evolution Data Optimized or Evolution Data Only, is one of them.

It refers to a 3G technology that generally offers download speeds of between 600 to 1400 kilobytes per second. Companies such as Verizon and At&t use this technology. If you’ve ever heard of HSPA or the 4G-network service, then you won’t have problems understanding what EVDO is all about. It is a form of cellular Internet offered via cell phone networks. This explains the reason why the service is only available in areas that have adequate mobile phone network or signals.

Are you thinking of trying a mobile broadband connection today? – If the answer is yes, there are a few options available.

The first choice is a USB modem, which is a tiny gadget that you connect to a laptop USB port. For instance, one can buy an EVDO modem.

A wireless mobile hotspot is another 3G Internet device that acts like a 3G wireless router. It connects your laptop or desktop computer to high speed Internet via a wireless connection.

A mobile data card, otherwise called a broadband data card is the third option. f you have to choose it make sure that your notebook has the proper interface card slot, either PCMCIA on older laptops or the newer ExpressCard slot.

Now that you know a little more about 3G Wireless Internet, the following guidelines will help you pick the most appropriate 3G service provider.

• High Speed Connection – whether you choose expensive or cheap 3G Internet, high speed must be your top consideration. If you are a web designer, you will certainly require a top speed connection for uploading and downloading large files. If your work is not very complex, mobile broadband service is perfect.

• 3G Modem Options – If you want cellular Internet to work for you, consider choosing the best modem. There are many modem providers in the US, including US Cellular, AllTell, Sprint. At&t and Verizon among others. It will be best if you could find product reviews and read them keenly.

• Cellular Signal Strength – Although each provider will state this on the advert, it is your duty to find out. Previous users are the only people who can guide you through this. Therefore, you have to search for related reviews and testimonials. You might find out that the signal strength is not very reliable in your locality and vice versa.

• Cost Of Service – 3G wireless Internet is currently not the Cheapest Broadband Option. But the portability is a big plus and it’s affordable. Due to the immense competition in this market, you should be able to compare numerous 3G offers. Some wireless providers will give you a chance to test their services on a trial basis.

Verizon Wireless 3G Mobile Broadband Options

Wireless 3G Internet

3G Mobile Broadband Options?

If you’re like me, you don’t want to be without a high speed Internet connection when you leave home. Many cellular phone companies, such as Verizon Wireless, provide a 3G Internet option that works anywhere you have a cell signal.

Verizon offers several ways to connect your laptop, netbook or other Internet capable device to the Internet. I will briefly describe the most common methods of providing 3G Internet.

Verizon’s MiFi Portable 3G Internet Hotspot:

I have personally used the Verizon MiFi to provide high speed 3G Internet service to my laptop and my wife’s netbook while I traveled. The MiFi is a portable wireless 3G Internet router and can provide broadband Internet access to up to 5 wireless Internet capable devices. It is tiny, about the size of a half a deck of cards, and has a rechargeable battery. Wireless setup was easy and the MiFi performed flawlessly. The cost for the data plan in 2010 was about $60 for 5 Gigabytes of data usage per month.

Verizon 3G Internet Smart Phones:

You can use any of Verizon’s 3G smartphones to provide Internet access to your laptop or possibly other wireless Internet devices, depending on the capabilities of your specific 3G smartphone. Several of the latest smartphones have 3G mobile hotspot capabilities. Three popular choices are:

  • Motorola Droid X
  • Samsung Fascinate
  • Palm Pre Plus

I presently use the Palm Pre Plus because Verizon offered me a free 3G mobile hotspot package deal for as long as I keep the phone. The other mobile hotspot capable phones vary in what Verizon charges for the hotspot feature.

Most mobile broadband plans have a monthly data limit of 5 gigabytes or less and have heavy overage charges. I have never come close to going over my bandwidth limit. However, if you do a lot of heavy downloading, you should monitor your Internet usage closely.

Even if your smartphone doesn’t have mobile hotspot capabilities, it can still be tethered via a USB cable to your laptop or netbook to provide 3G Internet access. If you’re in the market for a new smartphone or have had your existing phone plan for a couple of years or more, you may be able to get one of the newest 3G Internet provider smart phones for next to nothing. Verizon and most other cellular Internet providers offer huge discounts and rebates when you sign a new contract.

MY RECOMMENDATION:

You can compare 3G Internet Providers, mobile broadband plans and devices available in your local area using our 3G Wireless Internet Provider finder: http://isp1.us/wireless-internet
