What is HIGH SPEED INTERNET?

High speed Internet, popularly referred to as broadband Internet is a faster and more improved form of getting various types of information over the Internet to an end user. Broadband is usually compared with dial-up Internet access which is basically a much slower form of Internet access with a maximum speed of 56kbps. Dial-up Internet connections require the customer to engage a phone line connection permanently while using the dialup Internet service. All forms of high speed Internet connections though do not need a dialup phone line and can be accessed without one. Broadband Internet connections are of different types depending on the mode of connection that is employed. Basic forms of broadband connections include DSL Internet, cable Internet, satellite Internet and wireless Internet. Broadband Internet connections allow the end user download information from the web at rates of speed that exceed 768kbps. Thus, more information can be accessed at faster speeds, providing optimal use of the Internet with specialized services such as Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and video information accessible for use.

How does HighSpeed work?

High speed transmission technologies provide digital transmission in computer devices as “bits” of data. Thus, text, images and sounds can be downloaded in bits. Broadband Internet allows customers to perform different actions online at the same time. Individuals can shop online, watch different video clips and upload photos at a much faster and easier rate.

Types of Broadband Internet

Broadband Internet services can be provided on various different platforms. The four main platforms are DSL, cable, wireless and satellite connections.

DSL Internet Access

Digital subscriber line (DSL) transmits data at a fast rate over telephone lines pre installed in homes and/or offices. Based on the distance of the DSL service provider company from your home or office, the connection may be very fast or considerably slower. So you need to consider the distance of your home or office from a DSL Internet provider in order to ensure optimal service at all times.

There are two major types of DSL transmission technology; the Asymmetrical Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) which is suitable for consumers who receive a lot of information over the Internet but do not send much and the Symmetrical Digital Subscriber Line (SDSL) which has relatively the same amount of speed when uploading and downloading.

HiSpeed Cable Internet Service

Cable Internet utilizes your incoming coaxial TV cable. The cable connection is split, one cable supplies you with digital cable TV programming, and the other sends and receives Internet data via a broadband cable modem. This combination provides simultaneous high speed Internet service and digital television programming.

Satellite Internet Service

Satellite Internet is a high speed Internet option for rural or remote areas where DSL or cable Internet access is unavailable. Broadband satellite Internet uses a satellite dish is mounted on your home or business and a satellite modem to provide highspeed access to the web in rural areas.

Wireless High Speed Internet

Fixed wireless broadband Internet via wireless hotspots is popular in bookstores, airports, hotels and other public areas. Wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) can be used in conjunction with your broadband DSL, cable or satellite Internet service to connect Wi-Fi enabled devices in your home or business to the Internet via a wireless broadband connection. Wireless mobile broadband services (3G high speed Internet) are available from cellular phone providers. These services enable broadband Internet access practically anywhere that there's cellular coverage.

Things to Consider?

Before subscribing for a high speed Internet service you have to consider some important factors. First, you will have to decide the type of broadband connection you want to subscribe for. Factors that have to be considered when choosing a type of broadband connection include; proximity, accessibility of service and compatibility with other types of Internet services. For proximity purposes, DSL and cable Internet companies require you to operate Internet services in and around specified coverage area to ensure optimal Internet reception. Coverage area includes areas that have been lined with cables and fibre optics materials which ensure excellent service reception. Satellite Internet services are not based on such restrictions such as land connections, so local coverage area does not come into question.

Cost of Broadband Internet Service?

The cost of a high speed Internet service also comes to mind when choosing a suitable service provider to subscribe to. Many high speed Internet providers offer different bundle package deals with varying amounts of download and upload speeds. Speed depends on the bandwidth and a certain amount of bandwidth is provided for homes and offices at a particular fixed price. Package deals may also be available from different service providers. These package deals are made available with a view to increasing customer base. Competition usually breeds excellent service in this industry and if you have different high speed Internet service providers in your local area, you should scrutinize each one of them thoroughly so as to select the one that best suits your needs. Broadband Internet encompasses different forms of Internet platforms which have their varying merits and demerits. Based on certain preferences, you can subscribe to a broadband Internet connection of your choice.

Cheap High-Speed Internet?

Much emphasis should not be placed on cheap high speed Internet connections as there is no such thing. No high speed Internet service provider will go all the way to reduce prices to low rates without gaining something in return. These companies have to make a profit to remain in business, so high speed Internet connections with amazingly low rates that are too good to be true should be avoided. A very common idea that high speed Internet companies’ use is to reduce rates to low prices and then overload a particular bandwidth with more consumers than it can take. This greatly reduces speed and results in reduced quality of service to the end user.

High Speed Internet Options.

You have several options when choosing a high speed Internet service provider.

DSL, Cable, Satellite or Wireless Mobile Broadband Internet access is rapidly surpassing Dial Up Access as the most common way to connect to the Internet.

Your Internet connection is made with the service provider via special hardware interfaces using television cable, DSL telephone lines, satellite dish, wireless interface, or a combination.

High speed broadband Internet access is now available in most areas at a reasonable monthly cost of around $20 to $60.

Cable or DSL broadband high speed Internet service is available in many areas and usually the cheapest solution. Satellite or wireless high speed Internet service is available in most areas, but costs a little more.
