I will summarize the pros and cons of this product from what I gleaned by reading many of the positive and negative reviews of the NETGEAR Nighthawk AC1900 Dual Band Wi-Fi Gigabit Router (R7000) .
“Setup was a snap” appeared in many of the positive and even quite a few of the negative reviews. The NETGEAR genie mobile app is a positive bonus.
A much stronger WiFi signal than their previous router was also a common theme among most reviewers. Many with thick plaster or solid brick walls also reported surprising WiFi performance despite the typically adverse conditions. Some also commented that they no longer needed a WiFi extender.
Reliable with no drops – Many Nighthawk reviews complained of Internet dropping out with their previous equipment and were impressed with the improvement in reliability when using this Netgear AC1900 router. Some stated the unit has been running 24/7 for months without the need for a power reset.
Handles multiple devices well – Quite a few commented on the ability to connect many WiFi devices such as Roku boxes, smartphones, tablets, Internet enabled TVs, etc. to this router and video streaming was smooth with no buffering when watching Netflix or Hulu.
Advanced QoS – QoS or Quality of Services lets you configure network balancing and automatically recognizes and prioritizes Internet streaming and gaming traffic for a better online experience.
High Price – Many users complained of the high price of the Netgear Nighthawk, although the positive reviews also added that it was worth every penny.
One year hardware warranty but only 90 day free support – The AC1900 includes a 1 year warranty but you only get free technical support for 90 days.
One of the antennae doesn’t stand up properly – May be a minor point however several reviewers complained about the antenna connection falling down, even when tight.
Size of the Nighthawk – Some complained about the rather large size of the router. 13.7 x 10.1 x 3.1 inches
Poor parental controls settings – Several complained about the lack of per device schedule settings and overall usability of the Netgear parental controls on this router.
Connection Drops – This is a conflicting issue, due to the fact that many of the positive reviews state the opposite. On further research i discovered that many of these complaints were older and possibly due to not updating the router firmware. A small minority still had issues due to hardware conflicts and returned their Nighthawk router to Netgear.
